New Harley-Davidson Deadwood: essential, authentic, and built for America

Harley-Davidson expands its lineup with the Deadwood, a model dedicated exclusively to the US and Canadian markets, with no European release on the horizon (at least for the time being).

Inspiration stems from post-war bobbers, when riders stripped every superfluous element from their motorcycles to achieve cleaner lines. The name evokes the Black Hills region in South Dakota, a stone's throw from Sturgis. And it is precisely there, at the renowned 2026 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, that the bike will make its public debut this coming August 7th. Aesthetically, the new Deadwood focuses heavily on black, almost entirely eliminating chrome. The engine, exhaust tip, fork, handlebars, risers, light clusters, and controls are finished in matte black; only the lower rocker covers and pushrod tubes remain chromed to accentuate the engine's V-shape. The Deadwood features a wet weight of 311 kg, a single solo seat brings the ground clearance down to 673 mm, while the absence of saddlebags leaves the rear section of the Softail frame fully exposed. The 19-liter fuel tank integrates the console with analog-digital instrumentation. Underneath is the air-and-oil-cooled Milwaukee-Eight 117 Classic 1,923 cc V-twin: it delivers 98 hp at 4,600 rpm with 163 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. It is paired with a six-speed transmission and a belt drive. The suspension setup features a 49 mm fork with 130 mm of travel, while at the rear, hidden beneath the seat, a hidden monoshock with adjustable preload works with a reduced travel of 86 mm. The Deadwood's braking system relies on a 300 mm front disc with a four-piston fixed caliper and a 292 mm rear disc with a two-piston floating caliper. Rounding out the equipment are lean-angle sensitive Cornering ABS, Cornering traction control, drag-torque slip control, tire pressure monitoring, a Ride-by-Wire throttle with Road, Sport, and Rain modes, full-LED lighting, and a USB-C port.
